Looking for a way to support male survivors?

Host your own 1BlueString awareness event!

If you’re a musician, artist, event promoter, or just looking for a fun way to support male survivors, hosting a 1BlueString awareness event is a great way to get the word out in your community. Whether it’s an open mic concert, poetry reading, art show, or other creative exhibition, your awareness event can be a gateway to hope and healing for survivors and their loved ones.

Take a look at our guidelines below to see if your event supports the mission of 1BlueString. If it does, please send an email to info@1bluestring.org with the details of your proposal, including the date, event description, venue, contact info, and any fundraising component. We will gladly discuss your plans and provide the necessary promotional resources to help make your event a success.

-Guidelines-

The mission of 1BlueString is to raise awareness for the statistic that 1 in 6 men are survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Any 1BlueString event must be consistent with the following principles:

-Brings understanding, compassion, and hope to men who have experienced unwanted or abusive sexual experiences in childhood, and to those who care about them.

– Emphasizes the potential for healing and recovery and avoids focusing on discouraging or negative messages. Obviously, harm can be acknowledged, but always within a context of a belief that support, validation and treatment offer an opportunity for overcoming the harm and living a healthy and happy life.

-Respects men’s freedom to understand themselves in their own language, rather than imposing defining labels on them or their experiences.

-Acknowledges and validates the potential positive and negative impacts of race, class, ethnicity, sexual orientation, immigration status, ability, religion and other combinations of traits and cultural values on men’s ability to address confusing childhood sexual experiences.

-Avoids dehumanizing or demonizing people who have sexually abused children – who are not all the same – for example, by using broad-brush, “good” and “evil” language, or stereotyping.

-Directly relates to the mission and vision of 1BlueString, 1in6, inc. and Living Well– to support men who have had unwanted or abusive sexual experiences in childhood to live healthier, happier lives.
